Sightings of Small Red-eyed Damselfly have come in from Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre where Geoff Hall saw about 10 individuals – some beautifully pictured here. The red eyes on this species really do stand out more than on Red-eyed Damselfly and you also notice how delicate this smaller species is in comparison.
Jan Shields has also sent in the first definite sighting of Southern Hawker (far below left) for this year, albeit sadly in a damaged state post emergence. Having got used to everything being so early this year it is surprising more records for Southern Hawker have not come in. Jan also couldn’t resist a visit to Whixall Moss where she was lucky enough to see this fabulous male Norfolk Hawker (far below right). Some colorful photos have also come in; Jan spotting this pair of Azure Damselflies in cop with the female appearing almost unusually yellow (bottom left), and Geoff Hall spotting this stunning Blue-tailed Damselfly female f. rufescens at Walcott Lakes (bottom right).
