Jan Shields has been enjoying Beautiful Demoiselles on her daily exercise along the Rea Brook. These lovely photos show a teneral female (left) and a teneral male (below left). The opaque brown eyes typical of recently emerged individuals are really striking in this species. The photo below right shows a slightly more advanced male in which the colour of the wings and eyes have started to darken. Jan has also sent in a tandem pair of Large Red Damselflies (far below left) which illustrates nicely the wider body of the female compared with the male. Far below right we also have the first sighting of Azure Damselfly made by Stephen Barlow up at Whixall Moss – one of a good number seen on the wing.
