Daniel Johnson and Gwen Earlham have recorded the first early Black Darters emerging at Whixall Moss. 5 were seen in total and this photo (left) clearly shows the diagnostic black triangle on top of the thorax that helps separate this species from other darters. Geoff Hall has also been on the moss and sent this stunning photo of a female White-faced Darter ovipositing- this head on view (below left) showing us very clearly why they are so named! Geoff also saw male (far below left) and female (far below right) White-legged Damselflies -both photos illustrating the light chestnut coloured pterostigma on the wings. And last but not least having posted Scarce Blue-tailed Damselfly recently I thought I’d post another lovely photo from Geoff of Blue-tailed Damselfly – the blue being present on segment 8 of the abdomen and a really clear view of the black and white bicoloured pterostigma on the wings.
