Curious Raven has been photographing Demoiselles on the River Tern at Walkmills Nature Site in Market Drayton. Both UK species were present which gives us the opportunity to compare the males. The Beautiful male (left) has a completely dark wing in contrast to the simple dark band of colour seen in the Banded male. Typically they occupy different habitats; the former being found at faster flowing gravelly streams and the latter at slower flowing water bodies. Streams and rivers often vary greatly along their course and where suitable habitat for both species is present they can be found together.
