A single Downy Emerald had been spotted and photographed on 27th and 28th May at Mousecroft Pool near Shrewsbury! This is a rare species for Shropshire usually confined to a few private sites so this is exciting news. Dave Chapman was the first to spot and photograph (left) this individual, ironically as Jim Almond was unsuccessfully checking one of the known private sites for this species. Jim then also checked Mousecroft the following day and took the 2 photographs below. These are all of the same individual identified by a small mark on the hind left wing, but it’s definitely worth keeping your eyes open for others…
