Having received an email from David Williams entitled ‘free lunch’ I could never have imagined it meant the following…..
Dragonfly recording on the River Severn at Hampton Loade David came across the following Common Club-tail disaster:
The unfortunate dragonfly had been snared in the web of an Araneus spider and duly wrapped up only for a scorpion fly to enter the scene and take the first course! Apparently the spider did put in a brief appearance to see who the uninvited guest was but thought better of throwing them out of the restaurant and retreated.
On a less dramatic and more joyous note David also witnessed around 60 Banded Demoiselles Calopteryx splendens which must have looked lovely and is welcome news given the sparcity of sightings to date.
