Keep an eye out for local rarities…

By June 1, 2017Blog

I had the chance to survey 2 private ponds near Shrewsbury yesterday and amid battling mighty mosquitoes I was lucky to see Variable Damselflies and Downy Emerald Dragonflies on the wing. There’s always a chance these species could be in other locations in the county so now is the time to keep an eye out (and particularly make sure your Azure Damselflies aren’t really Variables…). I’ve posted 2 of Jim Almonds fabulous shots of these species from last year. And I should also mention I finally saw my first Common Blue Damselflies for 2017.
