Well still nothing on my home pond, but David Williams has been lucky enough to spot several teneral Large Red Damselflies flying out of the heather on his local exercise route at Stoney Hill, Telford. This lovely photo shows a male- identifiable by the bulge visible underneath segment 2 of the abdomen (and the lack of an ovipositor at the end of the abdomen). Really nice species to have a close look at if you have a pond as there are 3 female colour forms to keep an eye out for….and we have lots of time!
