Last weekend was the Preston Montford FSC Dragonfly course and despite a dubious forecast we managed to dodge all the showers and see 16 species which was great. These included several sightings of Ruddy Darter as pictured here by R. Hedley. Hopefully I’ll have a few more pictures shortly as we had some lovely close encounters with Demoiselles (Beautiful and Banded) and White-legged Damselflies. Interestingly we ventured up to Wildmoor Pool where Emerald Damselflies, Black Darters and Common Hawkers were nowhere to be seen. These have all been on the wing for a while at Whixall Moss which shows presumably how altitude really effects the flight season.
