After writing the last post I thought it was time for some ‘textbook’ dragonflies and Nick Moss has sent in this perfectly straight male Golden-ringed Dragonfly..and what’s more this wasn’t in his living room, but in textbook Golden-ringed habitat at Cramer Gutter on Catherton Common.
Elsewhere Julie Rogers has been enjoying good numbers of White-legged Damselflies along the canal tow path at Whixall Moss. Julie’s 2 photos (particularly below right) really highlight 2 of the diagnostic features; the broad, flattened tibiae (lower legs) and the pale chestnut pterostigma (wing spots) which are really noticeable in the fact they are not black or dark.
