Stephen Barlow has sent in the first records this year of White-faced Darters and an ‘in-flight’ Four-spotted Chaser at Whixall Moss. He photographed this emergent White-faced Darter (left) and one other low down in the vegetation. The exuviae has been most useful in determining whether this was a chaser or darter emerging!

On the Welsh side of the moss Stephen also found teneral male White-faced Darter (below left). The forecast is good for today and Sunday and I’m keeping an eye on the very large chaser larvae lurking in our pond…
