Paul Roughley has sent in this photo of a male Small Red-eyed Damselfly seen for the second year running at Whitehouse Pool near Welshpool. Now is definitely the time to keep an eye out in Shropshire for this relative newcomer to the county. They are smaller and appear more delicate than Red-eyed Damselfly and their bright red eyes really stand out as seen on this male. They also frequently raise the end of their abdomen skyward as seen in Paul’s photo, and the areas of blue extend further into the abdomen from the ends. Keep me posted as we still only have a handful of sites where this species has been recorded…
