With all this hot weather it’s now possible to get 2 dragonflies per photo! Julian Cartwright has sent in a pair of male Large Red Damselflies and Jim Almond has sent in a pair of male White-faced Darters. Jim has also sent a lovely photo of the ‘white-face’ frons area that gives this rare species it’s name, and another pair photo, but this time the male and female. Julian has sent in a female Emperor ovipositing and this head on angle also gives a nice view of the yellow costa- the leading vein of the wing. And to round off a photo of Four-spotted Chaser taken by Jan Shields at Pole Cottage. This species seems to be everywhere at the moment in really good numbers and if you watch them for a while you will see some incredible mid flight mating…blink and you’ll miss it!
