The good news is damselflies are emerging from the top to the bottom of the county with Large Red Damselfly being recorded on May 13th down south in Ludlow by Peta Sams. The not so good news is that a few have found the blustery showery conditions problematic. I saw a number of large reds with the Discovering Dragonflies course at Carding Mill Valley. Following a downpour of hail (!) a number were found in the vegetation though wing and abdomen damage were evident. Pictured below is the same species seen by myself near Pontesbury with very unconvincing wings! They also have green tips which may be a duckweed adornment…
More convincing is this Common Blue Damselfly seen again near Pontesbury..
