Laura and Kat Edwards-White have recorded 2 pairs of Willow Emeralds incop at Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre- 1 pair on each of the 2 main ponds. This is great news as Willow Emeralds were seen here last year by Geoff Hall. Geoff also visited this site yesterday and photographed 2 pairs on the main jetty pond. If you look carefully at the ovipositing pair (left) you can see the blade extending out from the ovipositor to cut into the branch. The photo below beautifully illustrates the long abdomens and broad light pterostigmas on the wings of both male and female.
Elsewhere Jan Shields took this brilliant shot of a Common Darter perching on a metal dragonfly spike in her garden- clearly not phased at all!
