Stephen Barlow has sent in this great photo of Lesser Emperors ovipositing. It was taken in Cheshire on Marbury Big Mere, but definitely worth posting on the Shropshire blog as this behaviour of ovipositing in tandem is really unusual amongst hawker dragonflies. Southern Migrant Hawkers and Vagrant Emperors are also known to do this, but if you see this behaviour in Shropshire at the moment you are most likely looking at Lesser Emperors. Happy hunting!
