Dry weather continues and waterbodies are drying up which is not great news for some of our declining species. Fortunately there is still water in Wildmoor Pool on the Longmynd where Ivan Grove saw this lovely female Common Hawker ovipositing. This species and Black Darter are now categorised as Near Threatened in the UK and Endangered in Europe. Jake Dudderidge has sent in a great photo of Black Darters in cop seen at Whixall Moss (below left) along with a female Emerald Damselfly (below right). Emerald Damselflies are the most significantly declining species in the UK and are also in trouble in Europe, classified as Near Threatened.
