Jan Shields has sent in some lovely photos taken on a dragonfly course at Attingham Park yesterday. We saw numerous Ruddy Darter (left) and surprisingly only 1 Common Darter (below left). Emperors seemed to be everywhere, Brown Hawkers were ovipositing (below right) and a good number of Four-spotted Chasers were still doing everything at top speed despite being a little worse for wear! (far below left). The last photo was taken elsewhere at Jan’s pond, but I couldn’t resist posting this fabulous male Broad-bodied Chaser (far below right) illustrating beautifully those patches of pigment at the base of the wings that help separate it from clear winged Skimmers.
