This time last year we were up to our eyes in dragonflies on the wing and yet this year despite the list of species growing, sightings are few and far between. Ivan Grove recorded this beautiful female Blue-tailed Damselfly form violacea which is always lovely to see! At Whixall Moss Jan Shields walked miles (!) and managed to find 1 Four-spotted Chaser (below right) and 4 White-faced Darters. The male is shown below left illustrating clearly the white face. Jan also saw the Clubtails in Shrewsbury and has sent in this great head on view (far below right) showing the clear separation between the eyes -the only UK dragonfly species with this diagnostic feature. Jake Dudderidge also sent a picture of a Clubtail emerging on the vertical walls of a fishing platform on the River Severn – an extraordinary sight!
