Paul Roughley has sent in these lovely photos of Common Clubtail exuviae and the emergent adult seen by Crewgreen Bridge near the confluence of the Rivers Vyrnwy and Severn…right on the Shropshire border! At first glance I thought the adult was female, but on closer inspection in the picture below you can see 2 clues showing this is a male. The upper arrow shows tiny yellow side protrusions called auricles and the lower arrow shows acute angles present on the hind margin of the wings. These angles allow room for the females legs when in the mating wheel.
