Just spent a lovely hour in the autumn sunshine at The Bog surrounded by good numbers of Common Darter and Black Darter as well as Brown, Migrant and Southern Hawker..and to my surprise Willow Emeralds! I’ve posted my woeful photograph as despite the tiny subject it does show you what they frequently do which is to hang off the end of the branch -this is how I’ve spotted most of them to date. I saw 7 in total including a mating pair and an ovipositing pair. I was amazed to see them up at this location, but they really do seem to be turning up in a quite a few places so keep a look out…
Following yesterdays post Michael Howard popped up to The Bog and has taken a couple of lovely photos where you can actually see the damselfly! I’ve zoomed in on the second additional photo as this shows really clearly what is described as ‘the ragged spur’ on the side of the thorax..far more pronounced than any spur seen in Emerald Damselfly -which surprisingly was no where to be seen.
