Having posted a female Emerald Damselfly yesterday, Stephen Barlow has kindly sent a photo of an immature male also seen at Whixall Moss. This illustrates how similar immature males are to the females. You can see this is a male due to the ‘bulge’ under abdominal segment 2 of the abdomen and the lack of ovipositor at the end of the abdomen. As this individual matures it will develop blue eyes and powdery blue pruinescence at both ends of the abdomen and on the sides of the thorax.
