It’s all happening on the meres in Shropshire…Harry Beaman has seen around 15 (!) Norfolk Hawkers on Crosemere and 1 Lesser Emperor on 4th July. Lesser Emperor has only been recorded twice before in Shropshire and not since 2019 so this is a great spot! The photos shown here are however Stephen Barlows photo’s taken at Ellesmere on Sunday 5th July where he saw single adults and quite likely a pair in tandem. I think the photos are great as they really illustrate how visible and distinctive the blue ‘saddle’ is on the abdomen readily distinguishing this species from Emperor Dragonfly. The photos below show just some of the many Norfolk Hawkers seen by Harry- what a joy! The green eyes and clear wings really stand out which is so useful now we have Norfolk and Brown Hawker both on the wing!
