Harry Beaman had an amazing days dragonfly recording at The Mere in Ellesmere yesterday! Firstly he saw this Red-veined Darter- the first recorded in Shropshire since 2012! The photos left and below left show the diagnostic single stripe on the side of the thorax and bluish tinge to the lower half of the eye. Then Small Red-eyed Damselfly (below right) followed by Lesser Emperor (second row below) and Norfolk Hawker (third row below L). These are all Shropshire rarities and it’s definitely worth keeping eyes out for all of them. Harry also sent 2 photos I had to post; an Emperor in flight (third row below R) twisting it’s whole body whilst keeping the head completely straight, and a Banded Demoiselle in the last row which just speaks for itself- amazing records and amazing photos thank you!
