Until 8th June this year there had only ever been 1 record of Scarce Chaser in Shropshire made at Attingham Park in 2008. Jimmy Yau has now photographed this individual at Severn Valley Country Park near Alveley and posted it on the wildlife group facebook page where John Freshney correctly identified it and got in touch. This species is known to be expanding it’s range and is one I have kept an eye out for ever since becoming county recorder so this is really great to see it back! Let’s hope it’s one of a few. Keep an eye out for it- typically found on slow flowing muddy rivers and water meadows….great record!
