New record for Prees Heath

By August 3, 2021Blog

Prees Heath Common Reserve is well known to butterfly enthusiasts, but the warden Stephen Lewis has recently recorded the dragonfly Black Darter – pictured left. This male was seen on 1st August and represents the first ever record of this species at this site. The closest previous record for Black Darter was made slightly north at Brown Moss though this was back in 1997, and to the west (though a reasonable distance away) is Whixall Moss where good numbers of Black Darter thrive.
