Jim Almond has sent in this rather strange photo of a recently emerged Large Red Damselfly that hasn’t quite finished the job. So often we see individuals deformed by nearby obstacles, overcrowding or being battered by the weather. In this case it appears that the wings and abdomen for some reason were never going to become fully functional. Moments after taking this photo a blackbird brought an end to this sorry tale.
