It’s raining again and hard to see how our dragonflies will persist for long if autumn continues like this! In between showers Julian Cartwright saw good numbers of Black Darter (left) on Magpie Hill near Clee Hill…and ominously a hungry hobby on the wing! Geof Hall has also sent in some nice photos of Common Hawker (below). The inflight photo really highlights the yellow costa (leading vein) on the wings whilst the stationary picture allows us to clearly see the narrow yet prominent antehumeral stripes on top of the thorax.

Keep me posted with sightings and remember it’s still possible to see Willow Emerald Damselfly…if it’s made it to Shropshire?…
