I returned to Isle Pool near Shrewsbury today and to my amazement saw 2 Norfolk Hawkers! Both were too distant for my camera so I have posted here a reminder of their appearance using a photo from the British Dragonfly Society Resources. In my experience so far these dragonflies seem relatively ‘calm’ for hawkers and settle fairly frequently on vegetation allowing you to see the green eyes, clear wings and yellow ‘isosceles’ triangle. The green eyes are really noticeable in flight also. So if you see anything large and brown try and have a really good look.
Isle Pool is privately owned so please do not try to view them. Hopefully this repeated sighting is a sign of things to come and this species may well be trying to establish itself in other parts of Shropshire too…
