Spots before the eyes at Whixall!

Barrie Smith reports Whixall Moss is a hot bed of activity recording over 100 Four-spotted Chasers on 19th May. Good numbers engaged in all activites from copulating on the wing to ovipositing to territorial battles- often with mature male White-faced Darters.

 
 
 

Damselflies were also  numerous with Large Reds and Azure Damselflies seen copulating and ovipositing. The latter are shown below ovipositing in tandem- the large numbers together affording some safety in numbers for each pair from predators.
