Paul Spear has been out in the heat of the day at Whixall Moss and has sent in some wonderful photos of White-faced Darters. A male (left) and female (below left) in flight and a female ovipositing (below right) alone -presumably with the male guarding close by. The 2 mating wheel shots give us really stunning detail and on the left of these you can even make out the 2 superior anal appendages of the male holding the back of the females head (a further single inferior appendage secures the top of her head).
At the bottom I’ve included a stunning flight shot of a Four-spotted Chaser (left) and a perched Broad Bodied Chaser (right)…so much to see when the sun comes out!
