Warm air temperatures and a flurry of records and photos thank you! Mark Underwood has been monitoring Pole Cottage Pools on the Long Mynd and has sent in 3 lovely photos of Emerald Damselflies. The 3rd photo shows a tandem pair and you can really see the difference in the thickness of abdomen between the sexes.

Tim Walter has sent in flight shots from Pam’s Pools of Emperor and Brown Hawker and a great photo of Four-spotted Chaser ovipositing- the four spots at the wing nodes appearing more clearly in the reflection! Geoff Hall has managed to snap the fast and furious Common Hawker in flight (far below right) showing clearly the brightly coloured costa and the narrow yet prominent antehumeral stripes.

The final 2 photos show Ruddy Darter; a tandem pair photographed by Tim Walter and a fabulous head on pic taken by Julian Livesey in Pontesbury. This close up illustrates the black frons side line extending down the sides of the frons like a long moustache, a feature not present in the Common Darter.
