Only a Common Darter, but so beautifully photographed by Geoff Hall near Wistanstow that I had to post it! This close up gives us a really good view of the frons area- you can see a black area above the frons but no black side line extending down the side of the frons. The presence (or absence in this case) of this side line is used to distinguish between some species of darter, the Ruddy Darter for example does have a frons side line. You can also clearly see the yellow stripe on the black legs- this stripe is absent in Black and Ruddy Darters.
As for the second photo it’s simply beautiful!
