A bit of cloud has given Jim Almond a chance to look through his recent pictures and he has sent in 2 more glorious photos of male Downy Emerald. You can clearly see the waisted abdomen which then broadens out towards the end. This is held above horizontal in flight and as such aids identification. The eyes are also stunning and almost appear to be lit up! This species should be around for another week or two and though rare, it has been recorded in unexpected locations before now…
