Geoff Hall has sent in these great photos of Small Red-eyed Damselflies at their regular location of Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre in Craven Arms. They are probably present in many more locations than have been recorded so take a close look at any Red-eyed damsels and if they seem small, the eyes are really bright and the blue coloration runs further into the abdomen than usual then you may be in luck! They also have a habit of raising the ends of their abdomens. Geoff also photographed this male Azure Damselfly (below right) illustrating the identifying features of ‘the snooker player’; the black cue on the side of the thorax, the black bowtie at the end of the abdomen and the whisky glass on segment 2 of the abdomen.

The final 2 photos show Brown Hawker in all it’s glory- male on the left and an ovipositing female on the right. Truly spectacular and large and always a sight to behold!
