White-faced Darter on the wing

By May 4, 2017Blog

In addition to Large Red Damselflies and Four-spotted Chasers Stephen Barlow has spotted the first White-faced Darters for 2017 at Whixall Moss. His photos show a teneral male (far left) and a teneral female (left). Both appear very similar at first glance though the female has a far stockier more parallel sided abdomen. As the male matures the areas of yellow will darken to deep red in colour.
