Well the sun came out and with it a host of dragon and damselflies! The first Common Blue Damselflies were seen on 8th May at Whixall Moss and a few days later photographed by Tim Walters at Pam’s Pools. Left we can see a mature male and below this an immature male. To the right we can see a lovely shot of a female Azure Damselfly resting in possibly a buttercup or Marsh Marigold. Broad-bodied Chaser records have also come in- firstly on 8th May seen at Granville Country Park and then a number of locations including The Novers south of Cleehill, where Julian Cartwright took this photo of a male developing it’s mature colours. Julian also took the photo of 2 almost identical female Large Red Damselflies at Magpie Quarry pool near Doddington.

Elsewhere Jan Shields braved the heat at Whixall Moss and was rewarded with an emerging White-faced Darter and a number of immature males -see far below.
