Very changeable spring weather seems to be delaying our early species. Jim Almond has seen the first Large Reds emerging from his pond near Shrewsbury so gradually the season is getting underway. These photos all show recently emerged tenerals; a female pictured in close up and below left and a male below right. The photos illustrate how the male abdomen is visibly more slender than that of the female.
