Very Variable Damselflies…

Just a few of the great photos taken by Jim Almond last week showing firstly a textbook Variable Damselfly with great exclamation marks on the thorax, a black spur on the side of the thorax and a distinctive stemmed goblet shape on segment 2 of the abdomen.

And secondly a headless specimen! This species is known for variations (hence the name) but more traditionally in the markings and not the lack of head. Quite amazing to catch the unfortunate individual so beautifully presented in the web.
