I was lucky enough to spot a female Downy Emerald today completing emergence at a private site near Shrewsbury. She then took her maiden flight up into the tree canopy and I took the remaining exuvia! I’ve also posted a couple of my attempts to capture some of the males in flight….it just shows you how good some of our photographers are! I saw a total of 11 species in my travels today and was thrilled to see my first Black-tailed Skimmers and Emperor for the year. A quick catch up with incoming records reveals the first Black-tailed Skimmers were seen near Stiperstones on 29th May and the first Emperor on Magpie Hill near Titterstone Clee Hill on 27th May. Things are definitely hotting up and it’s great so many of you are out there enjoying the spectacle!
