The joy of garden ponds…

Jan Shields has also been very grateful for her own garden pond in lockdown and has sent in these fabulous photos. The exuvia below left has been left behind by an emergent Large Red Damselfly. It is a distinctive squat shape with long wing buds and for those who find similar things and have a hand lens, take a look at the hind margins of the head…almost right angles which is diagnostic.

Below right is a hawker larvae…most likely Southern Hawker….but time will tell!
