Four-spotted Chasers in the sunshine!

By April 22, 2020Blog

Stephen Barlow who is lucky enough to be doing his daily exercise on Whixall Moss has seen the first Four-spotted Chasers for Shropshire this year- about 10 of them to be precise! This lovely photo (left) shows the four spots on the wings and also the patches of pigment at the base of each wing which is diagnostic of chaser species in the UK. Stephen also saw a number of teneral Large Red Damseflies – a female (form typica) shown below left. A White-faced Darter also reportedly did a fly past- just too quick  for confirmation with a photo!
